HEAVENLY VALLEY GONDOLA

In the fall of 2000, Heavenly Valley installed a gondola with the largest diameter rope in North America, 56MM 6x36 RLL Poly Core. Two reels of 13,000 feet each for a total of 26,000 feet were used, with two splices. Each splice is 300 feet long with 15 foot tails. Gary Burch contracted with RICHARD RYER INC. to do the splicing for this project. Over 30 Heavenly Valley employees assisted, working 12 hours to make each splice.
RICHARD RYER INC. also spliced the cable on the Carquinez Bridge in California in 2002. The work took place 140 feet high, above the Carquinez Straits.
